Men’s Indoor Track Opens 2025-26 Campaign At Springfield College

Richburg qualifies for All-NE's in the triple jump with a mark of 13.80 meters

Springfield, MA. – The Fitchburg State University Men's Indoor Track & Field team opened their 2025-26 season today as they competed at the 2025 Springfield College Season Opener at the Springfield College Field House.

Senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing first in weight throw with an All-New England qualifying throw of 16.76 meters and second in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying throw of 14.54 meters, while senior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) placed second overall in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16.58 meters as well as finishing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.43 meters.

Sophomore Shamar Richburg (Rio Vista, TX) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing first overall in long jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 6.78 meters and second in the triple jump with an All-New England qualifying mark of 13.80 meters, while senior Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (4:21.31) and freshman Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) (4:24.03) finished first and third respectively in the mile.

In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Patrick Shaughnessy (Plymouth, MA) (4th) and classmate William McGurl (Billerica, MA) (7th) turned in times of 9.14 seconds and 9.75 seconds, while in the 60 meter dash, junior Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (7.55), Bourassa (7.87) and newcomer Tristan Rogers (Brockton, MA) (7.94) placed 19th, 35th and 36th respectively.

In the mile, junior Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) (sixth) and classmate Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) (13th) turned in times of 4:37.68 and 4:52.14, while in the 400 meter, junior Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) (3rd), freshman Martin Griffith (Randolph, MA) (8th) and sophomore David Rodriguez (Hampden, MA) (11th) registered times of 53.11, 55.67 and 1:01.67.

Senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (1:30.50), junior Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (1:32.91) and senior Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA) (1:33.94) placed fifth, eighth and ninth respectively in the 600 meter, while in the 1000 meter, juniors Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) (3rd) and Lemuel Del Valle (Lawrence, MA) (4th) posted times of 3:04.09 and 3:08.19.

 In the 200 meter, newcomer Rick Da Moura (Boston, MA) (3rd), Castillo-Clottier (16th) and Madden (19th) posted times of 22.89, 24.26 and 24.79 seconds, while in the 3000 meter, Guevara Mateo (1st), Edwards (5th), Burns (9th), Lancaster (16th) and Del Valle (19th) turned in times of 8:55.42, 9:29.77, 9:45.81, 10:16.07 and 11:26.18 respectively.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Elmi, Griffin, Moriello and Madigan finished fifth overall with a time of 3:55.18, while the 4000 Meter relay team of Madigan, Castillo-Clottier, Guevara Mateo and Edwards placed first overall with a time of 11:03.63

In the field, sophomore John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) registered tosses of 12.59 meters and 12.59 meters in the shot put, placing 13th and 18th overall, while sophomore Joseph Imbracsio (N. Billerica, MA) added a 21st place effort in the weight throw with a toss of 10.20 meters,

In the triple jump, sophomore Tafari Byfield-Felton (Fiskdale, MA) turned in fifth effort with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.08 meters, while in the shot put, junior Cameron Borges (Fall River, MA) (5th), freshman Nathan Murray (N. Billerica, MA) (25th) classmate Vishnu Pithani (Mansfield, MA), (27th) and Imbracsio (30th) registered tosses of 12.97 meters, 10.50 meters, 9.87 meters and 9.21 meters.
