Falcons Soar At Reggie Poyau Invite

Felix and Shimiyimana notch DIII qualifying marks for Green and Gold

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon, placing fourth overall at the 2023 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational with a total of 56 points, hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Center.

How It Happened

Senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) paced the Falcons, taking top honors in 60 meter dash with a DIII NE qualifying time of 7.15 seconds, while classmate Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) placed first overall in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.20 meter in addition to a second place MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.40 meters.

Junior Taban Manyok (Lowell, Mass.) finished first overall in the mile (4:29.72) and fourth in the 3000 meter (9:07.94) to qualify for the MASCAC's, while senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) notched a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the 60m hurdles (9.66) and the high jump (1.75m) after finishing seventh and third respectively.

In the 800 meter, sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (2:08.38), classmate Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (2:17.07) and junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) (2:17.09) placed fifth, seventh and eighth, while junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) turned in a 14th place time of 7.59 seconds in 60 meter dash to qualify for the post-season.

The 4x400 mter relay team of Bueno Campos, Felix, freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) and classmate Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) placed sixth with solid time of 3:52.72, while Auston added a sixth place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 11.77 meters in triple jump.

In the field, Freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) finished fourth in the shotput with a post-season qualifying toss of 12.65m, while classmate Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) posted placed 11th in the shotput (10.91M) and 11th in the weight throw (8.10m).

Rounding out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon were newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) (15th) (57.79) in the 400 meter, junior Cameron Davis (Gardner, Mass.) (21st) (5:02.12) in the mile and Bourassa (25.66) in the 200 meter.
