Muolo Named MASCAC Field Athlete Of The Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 3, 2011) – Senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was named the MASCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Muolo earns his ninth weekly honor of the season after leading the Fitchburg State track team at the New England Alliance meet this weekend. The senior thrower collected his sixth award in seven weeks after capturing a pair of MASCAC league titles for the Falcons in both the discus (46.46m) and hammer throw (49.39m).
In addition to his league honors, Muolo also fared well in two other events, earning second in the javelin (54.89) and sixth in the shot-put (13.26m). This season, Matt has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the discus, tossing a program record 48.96m.
Muolo and members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action this weekend as they travel to the Division III New England Championships. The meet will be hosted by MIT this Saturday at 11 a.m.
