Falcon Track & Field Trio Earn Player Of The Week Honors
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams named three athletes as MASCAC Players of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Kibler and Muolo sweep men’s honors; Lane named women’s Field Athlete of the Week
FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 5, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams named three athletes as MASCAC Players of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Junior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) and senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) swept the MASCAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors, while sophomore Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) was tabbed the MASCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Kibler earns his first MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week accolade of the season after sparking the Fitchburg State men’s team with a first place performance in the 10,000m run. Kibler smoked the competition, turning in a time of 32:43.23, while topping the nearest competitor by 22 seconds.
Muolo collects his third consecutive Field Athlete of the week honor after leading the Fitchburg State field players at the Jim Sheehan Invitational. Muolo posted a trio of top three finishes with a first place performance in the hammer throw (50.19m), while adding respective second and third place efforts in the javelin (47.54m) and shot-put (13.99m). The Falcons earned second overall at the meet, posting 105 total points.
Rounding out the list of award winners was Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, Emily Lane. Lane earns the honor for the second straight week after setting yet another Fitchburg State all-time mark in the pole vault. At the Sheehan Invitational, Lane notched a pair of first place honors in the both the high-jump (1.58m) and pole vault, setting a new Falcon record with a height of 2.80m in the pole vault. The ladies squad finished third overall at the meet, totaling 115 points.
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will travel to UMass Lowell this Saturday at 11 a.m.
