Falcons Track Team Sweeps MASCAC Weekly Honors
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams swept the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly awards this week as a trio of Falcons earned MASCAC Player of the Week honors.
Lane earns MASCAC Women’s weekly honor; Rowe, LeBlanc collect men’s weekly awards
FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 19, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams swept the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly awards this week as a trio of Falcons earned MASCAC Player of the Week honors.

Sophomore Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School), junior Peter Rowe (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) and senior Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) were all honored this past week for their strong efforts at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational. Lane collected her second weekly honor of the season after being named the MASCAC Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the week, while Rowe and LeBlanc took home the Track and Field awards respectively on the men’s side.
Lane earns her weekly accolade after posting a pair of top finishes at both the MIT Pentathlon and the Jumbo Invitational. Lane topped the charts in the five-event competition, posting a DIII New England mark of 2,800 points. She notched a season-best time of 9.54 in the 55m hurdles, while posting a 2:36.26 effort in the 800m run. In addition to her accolades at MIT, Lane also added a ninth place performance in the 60m hurdles (9.98) at Tufts.
On the men’s side, Rowe collects his first weekly honor of the season after leading the Fitchburg State men’s track team at the Jumbo Invitational. Rowe placed sixth overall and qualified for the Division III New England’s in the 60m hurdles, notching a time of 9.19 in the event. LeBlanc joined Rowe in the MASCAC weekly awards with a DIII New England pole vault mark, finishing second overall with a height of 4.25m.
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to MIT at 11 a.m.
