Ice Hockey Sweeps MASCAC Weekly Honors
Filimonov tabbed player & rookie of the week; Soderberg named goaltender of the week
Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State Ice Hockey freshman Aleksei Filimonov (Saint Petersburg, Russia) was recently selected Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week, while junior Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) was named MASCAC Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Filimonov collected his first weekly honors of the season after posting five points on two goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for the Green and Gold. Aleksei registered one goal and one assist in an 8-0 victory over the Rams of Framingham State on Thursday before adding one score and two helpers in a 4-0 triumph against Worcester State on Saturday.
Soderberg also notched his weekly accolade of the 2025-26 campaign after totaling 61 saves with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage in a pair of shutout victories for the Falcons. Frederick stopped all 22 shots he faced in an 8-0 victory against Framingham State on Thursday before adding 39 saves in a 4-0 win against the Lancers of Worcester State on Saturday.
The Fitchburg State Ice Hockey team (4-4-0, 3-0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Tuesday as they host the Leopards of Wentworth Institute, starting at 4:00PM.
