Fitchburg State Sweeps MASCAC Ice Hockey Weekly Honors
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman Tyler Warila was recently selected both Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Kirby Saari earned MASCAC Goaltender of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman Tyler Warila was recently selected both Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Kirby Saari earned MASCAC Goaltender of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Warila earns his third and fourth weekly accolades of the 2016-17 campaign after totaling three points on one goal and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. The first-year forward notched a pair of helpers in a 5-3 win over Salem State on Thursday before collecting the game-winning tally in a 2-1 overtime victory against Plymouth State on Saturday.
Saari picks up his first weekly honor on the season after posting a 0.98 goals against average and a .973 save percentage with 36 saves for the Green and Gold in a 2-1 overtime win over Plymouth State on Saturday evening.
The Fitchburg State ice hockey team (3-3-1, 3-1-1 MASCAC) returns to action on Saturday as it takes on the Knights of Neumann University in opening round action of the 2016 Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational at 5 p.m.
