Worcester State Doubles Up Fitchburg State, 4-2
Four different Lancers registered goals as the Worcester State ice hockey team posted a 4-2 victory over Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Hart Recreation Center.
Connolly and Snyder collect one goal each for Falcons
WORCESTER, Mass. – Four different Lancers registered goals as the Worcester State ice hockey team posted a 4-2 victory over Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Hart Recreation Center.
Following a scoreless first period, Fitchburg State took the lead just 4:03 into the middle stanza as junior forward Ryan Connolly connected on his second tally of the season on feeds from classmates Timmy Genova and John Celli for the 1-0 margin.
The Lancers responded at the 11:09 mark when senior Rich Ledy blasted a shot from the into the upper right corner of the net, using an assist from fellow Cody Osburn and Nathan Stanley to knot the score 1-1.
Worcester State would grab the lead with just under five minutes remaining in the frame as newcomer Brian Fahey collected a pair of feeds from senior Taylor Laneville and junior Joe White and deposited the puck into the net for his first collegiate score to make the score 2-1 going into the final period of play.
In the third period, Fitchburg State retied the contest (2-2) at the 3:32 mark when sophomore Cameron Snyder found the back of the net for the unassisted short-handed marker.
The hosts regained the lead for good two and half minutes later as junior Nicholas Drill received a pass from freshman Sean Haltam and sophomore Alex DeWitz for the 3-2 advantage before White added an insurance empty-netter with 30 second left in the match, resulting in the 4-2 final.
For the contest, Worcester State held a 37-29 margin in shots, while the Falcons notched a pair of power play opportunities in the match. Between the pipes, senior Ryan Wysocki posted 33 saves for the Fitchburg State in 58:33 minutes of work, while junior Salvatore Tecci totaled 27stops for the Lancers in the victory.
Fitchburg State (0-3-2, 0-1-1 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Owls of Westfield State University for a contest starting at 7 p.m. Worcester State (2-1-2, 1-0-1 MASCAC) will host Framingham State on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
