Fitchburg State Ranked Fifth In Pre-Season Coaches Poll

Falcons collect 25 points in MASCAC coaches’ poll
FITCHBURG, MASS. (October 29, 2012) – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team was recently selected fifth in the MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as selected by the league coaches on Monday afternoon.
The Panthers of Plymouth State University were selected as the pre-season pick to win the 2013-14 MASCAC Ice Hockey crown after claiming the regular season title last winter. Plymouth State collected three first place votes to amass 41 points in this year’s poll, as the Panther topped second place Westfield State’s total of 37 points, which included three first place votes.
UMass Dartmouth followed in third place with 35 points, while Salem State finished in fourth place with 34 points. Fitchburg State placed fifth with a total of 25 points, while Worcester State and Framingham State rounded out this year’s poll in sixth and seventh place with 16 and eight points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.
