Worcester State Trips Up Fitchburg State, 3-2 (OT)
Senior Chris Wallin (Avon, Conn./Valley Forge Minutemen) connected for the game-winning goal 3:39 into the overtime period as Worcester State shocked Fitchburg State, 3-2 in MASCAC action this evening.
Wallin collects hat-trick in Lancers key MASCAC victory
WORCESTER, Mass. (December 4, 2010) – Senior Chris Wallin (Avon, Conn./Valley Forge Minutemen) connected for the game-winning goal 3:39 into the overtime period as Worcester State shocked Fitchburg State, 3-2 in MASCAC action this evening.
Wallin paced the Worcester State offense, connecting for all three Lancer goals and lifting them to their third victory of the season. Junior Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, Pa./Valley Forge Minutemen) was also solid with three assists in the contest, while Tim Bowman (Moorpark, Calif./Tulsa Rampage) and Derek Serbon (Crown Point, Ind./Tulsa Rampage) each added a helper.

Sophomore Jack Vets (Hamden, Conn./Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) and senior Billy Pescosolido (Walpole, Mass./Framingham Express) led the Fitchburg State offense with one goal apiece, while juniors Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio/CD Selects) and Travis Bertolotti (Miller Place, N.Y./New York Bobcats) each chipped in with helpers.
The Lancers opened the contest with an early 1-0 lead as Wallin connected for his first goal of the game at the 12:45 mark of the first period. Walling took a pair of feeds from Bowman and Asterito and connected for his fourth goal of the season to give the Lancers to one goal edge.
After a silent second period, Fitchburg State knotted the score with a power play goal at 5:20 of the third. Vets connected for the equalizer with help from Bertolotti and Threlkeld, but Worcester State answered right back with a Wallin marker at 7:18.
Trailing 2-1 in the last half of the third period, Fitchburg State answered down a man as Pescosolido netted a short-handed score at the 12:34 mark. The goal was Pescosolido’s second marker of the season and held up to send the contest into a five minute overtime.
In the extra frame, Worcester State came out firing, out-shooting Fitchburg State 5-1 in the period. The Lancers put the game to a close late in the overtime stanza as Wallin completed his hat-trick with only 1:21 remaining. Wallin teamed up with Asterito and Serborn for his sixth tally of the season and eventual game-winner.
Fitchburg State dominated the offensive front for most of the night but could not find the back of the net as it notched a 52-36 advantage in targets. The Falcons converted 1-of-5 power-plays on the night, while the Lancers capitalized on 2 of their 7 power play chances. Senior Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) collected 33 saves in the complete game effort for Fitchburg State, while Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, N.Y./Erie CC) boasted 50 saves in the contest.
Fitchburg State (4-2-0, 2-2-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Thursday as it hosts Plymouth State at 7 p.m. Worcester State (3-2-3, 2-1-1 MASCAC) will host Westfield State on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
