FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 10, 2011) – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team swept the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly awards this week as a pair of Falcons earned Player of the Week honors.
Juniors Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio/CD Selects) and Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) were honored by the conference after leading Fitchburg State to an impressive 4-0-0 stretch. Threlkeld was named the MASCAC Player of the Week for his work on the offensive end, while Leiser was tabbed the MASCAC Goalie of the Week for his play in the crease.
Threlkeld receives his first weekly honor of the season after sparking the high-flying Fitchburg State offense. Threlkeld also rallied for three assists in a 9-3 win at Assumption while posting one dish in a 3-2 overtime win over Becker. This season, Threlkeld ranks first on the Falcons squad in scoring, totaling a team-best 15 points with five goals and ten assists.
Between the pipes, Leiser was equally as strong, earning his first conference accolade of the season with four consecutive victories. Over that span, Leiser registered 141 saves (214 minutes), stopping 58 of 59 shots in a 4-1 Codfish Bowl championship round victory over UMass Boston. The junior net-minder also added 37 stops in a 3-2 overtime victory vs. Becker, while adding 26 saves in a 9-3 win at Division II Assumption College. This season, Leiser ranks first on the team with 232 saves, a .943 save percentage and a minimal 2.10 goals against average.
