Vorse tallies 42 saves between the pipes for the Falcons
FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 6, 2009) - Sophomore Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) collected 42 saves in net to lead Fitchburg State defensively in a 2-2 draw with Salem State College in non-conference action this evening.
Senior Bob Kaloustian (Marlborough, Mass./Suffolk University) and sophomore Chris Carey (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) registered one goal apiece to lead the Fitchburg State attack, while senior Matt Arsenault (Gardner, Mass./Gardner), sophomore Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers) and junior Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass./Boston Harbor Wolves) posted one assist each.

Senior captain Dave Pazzaglia (Oakdale, Conn./Cornwall Colts) led the Salem State charge with one goal and one assist, while classmate Zach Doyen (Ortonville, Mich./Orchard Lake) added one score. Sophomore Mike Genovese (Hingham, Mass./Foxboro Stars) chipped in with one assist.
Fitchburg State opened the contest with an early 1-0 lead as Kaloustian connected for his second score of the season just 9:54 into the match. The veteran forward deposited his 16th career goal off assists from Hutton and Arsenault.
After a silent second half which witnessed 26 shots on net, both teams came out firing in the final frame. Salem State found the back of the net first as Doyen collected his first goal of the year just 1:00 into the period. Fitchburg State fired back just 2:25 later as Carey recorded his second score of the season off assists from Riggs and sophomore John Goffredo (Washingtonville, N.Y./Boston Harbor Wolves). The Vikings responded later in the period as Pazzaglia posted his second goal of the year at the 13:28 to force the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, both teams remained silent, ending the game in a 2-2 draw. Vorse notched seven overtime saves to preserve the tie for the Falcons, while senior Ryan Hatch (Medway, Mass./Mt. Saint Charles) totaled 39 stops over 65 minutes of work for the Vikings.
Fitchburg State (5-5-2, 2-2-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Saturday as it hosts Westfield State College at 7 p.m. Salem State (5-4-1, 1-4-0 ECAC East) will travel to Wesleyan University on Friday at 7 p.m.
