Falcons finish with 16 points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 8, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team was recently selected sixth in the 2012-13 MASCAC Men’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls of Westfield State were selected as the pre-season pick to win the 2012-13 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball championship, capturing six first place votes to amass 47 points. The Owls outdistanced defending conference champion Salem State’s runner-up total of 41 points that included the other first place vote, while Bridgewater State finished third with 35 points. Worcester State grabbed fourth place with 27 points, while MCLA and Framingham State rounded out the poll with 18 points and 14 points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
