The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team was recently selected seventh in the 2011-12 MASCAC Men’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
Falcons finish with eight points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 8, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team was recently selected seventh in the 2011-12 MASCAC Men’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
The Vikings of Salem State University were the unanimous pre-season pick to win the 2011-12 MASCAC championship, capturing all seven first place votes to amass 49 points in taking the top spot in the poll. The Vikings outdistanced Westfield State’s runner-up total of 38 points, while defending MASCAC tournament champion Bridgewater State, finished third with 35 points. MCLA followed in fourth place with 23 points, while Framingham State and Worcester State came in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with 22 and 21 points. Fitchburg State rounded out this year’s coaches poll with eight points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s first Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
