Paul McGonagle:  Head Coach (Fourth Season; 11-18)

Paul McGonagle is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Fitchburg State football team. He has compiled an overall record of 11-18 during his first three seasonss as the Falcons head coach, while posting a 9-12 mark in the highly regarded New England Football Conference (NEFC). 

During the 2009 campaign, McGonagle made a name for Fitchburg State football, defeating key divisional opponents, Bridgewater State College and Coast Guard Academy. The Falcons registered their second consecutive victory over Coast Guard with a 37-34 overtime win, while downing Bridgewater State, 25-21 at home. Fitchburg State named six players to the NEFC All-Conference team, while having one athlete selected for the Bowl of the Stars game in Mexico City, Mexico.

In just his second season at the helm, McGonagle led the Falcons to a 4-6 record overall and was only one game shy of the conference championship, boasting a 4-3 mark in the NEFC. In 2008, McGonagle and the Falcons made significant strides, handing Coast Guard Academy its first divisional loss since 2006 with a stunning 44-29 victory. With one of the top offenses in the NEFC, the Falcons named two players to the NEFC All-Conference team, while naming seven players to the Worcester Area All-Star team.

Prior to taking over as head coach of the Falcons, McGonagle spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Bentley College. During his tenure, McGonagle helped the Hawks to their first Northeast-10 Conference Championship and NCAA Division II playoff berth.

In addition, McGonagle also served as the offensive coordinator at Stony Brook University where the Seawolves captured their first Northeast Conference Championship. He has a vast array of coaching experience including stints at Northeastern University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Bucknell University.

McGonagle, a 1999 graduate of the University of Kentucky, was a member of the Wildcat football team serving as a tight-end and offensive lineman. He was a teammate of former top draft pick Tim Couch. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and later earned his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.

He currently resides in Reading, Mass. with his three daughters, Sophia (7), Isabella (6) and Ava (3).
