MASCAC Football Pre-Season Poll Announced
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Falcons collect 33 points for sixth pick overall
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Bridgewater State was selected to repeat as MASCAC football champions in a vote of the league's coaches, capturing five of the nine first place votes to obtain 61 points. Following close behind Bridgewater State was Framingham State with four first place vote for 59 points, while the Western Connecticut State placed third overall with 46 points.
UMass Dartmouth followed in the fourth spot with 38 points, while Plymouth State landed fifth with a total of 35 points. The Falcons of Fitchburg State were slated to finish sixth with 33 points, while Mass. Maritime was picked seventh with a 22 points. Rounding out the 2017 MASCAC Pre-Season Football poll were Worcester State and Westfield State in eighth and ninth with 19 points and 11 points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success, while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.
The Fitchburg State football team will kick-off the 2017 season on Friday, September 1st as it travels to Curry College to take on the Colonels of Curry College for a contest starting at 7 p.m.
