Fitchburg State Picked Sixth In 2010 MASCAC Baseball Pre-Season Coaches Poll

Buzzards Bay, Mass. (March 10, 2010) — The Falcons of Fitchburg State College were picked sixth overall in the 2010 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Baseball Pre-Season Coaches Poll this afternoon.

Westfield State, last season’s MASCAC tournament champions, and Worcester State, the 2009 conference regular season champion, each captured three first place votes to amass 58 points in sharing the top spot in the poll, as the Owls and Lancers outdistanced third place Bridgewater State’s total of 50 points that included two first place votes. MCLA is next in fourth place with 32 points, while Salem State follows in the fifth spot with 29 points. Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime tied for sixth place with 24 points each, while Framingham State rounds out the poll in eighth place with 13 points.

In its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College. Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
