Falcons Outdoor Track & Field Earns All-Conference Awards
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s Outdoor Track & Field teams combined for seven All-Conference honors as selected at the New England Alliance Championships this past weekend.
Men place four on MASCAC All-Conference list; Women’s trio earns All-Conference honors
FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 5, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s Outdoor Track & Field teams combined for seven All-Conference honors as selected at the New England Alliance Championships this past weekend.
Senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) paved the way for the Falcon men, taking home a pair of honors in the discus (46.46m) and hammer throw (49.39m), while classmate Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) claimed the crown in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:59.52). Junior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) joined the pair atop the conference, snagging the league title in the 10K (32:47.88), while senior Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) set a new MASCAC mark in the pole vault to earn first place honors (4.60m).
For the ladies, sophomore Shanissa Sampson (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) notched All-Conference honors in convincing fashion, claiming the MASCAC crown in the javelin with a new conference mark of 38.69m (school record). Classmate Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) also earned post-season accolades with a first place finish in the pole vault (1.55m), while junior Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) claimed the league title in the triple jump (11.10m) to round out the list of award winners.
Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s Outdoor Track & Field teams will be in action this weekend as they travel to MIT for the DIII New England Championships.
