McTomney named Player of the Week; Mitchell tabbed Rookie of the Week
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team swept this week's Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) weekly awards this week as senior forward Michaela McTomney (Bellingham, Mass.) earned Player of the Week honors, while freshman guard Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) picked up Rookie of the Week accolades as announced by the WACBA yesterday afternoon.
McTomney collects her first weekly accolade of the 2017-18 campaign after averaging a double-double of 11.0 points and ten rebounds per contests as well as one block per game over three contests for the Green and Gold.
The third-year Falcon registered 14 points, eight rebounds, one steal and three blocks in an 86-77 victory over Elms College last Tuesday before adding six points, eight caroms, and one steal in an 81-67 setback to UMass Boston on Thursday. Michaela concluded the week with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds to go along with two assists in a 77-76 loss to Dean College on Saturday.
Mitchell earns her second weekly honor of the season after averaging 15.3 points, seven rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals per contest over the course of three games for Fitchburg State. The first-year Falcon posted 16 points, seven boards and one steal in an 86-77 win over Elms last Tuesday before chipping in with eight points, six caroms, one assist and one steal in an 81-67 setback to UMass Boston on Thursday.
Mikaela finished off the week with a game-best 22 points, eight boards, two assists and two steals for the Green and Gold in a 77-76 loss to Dean College on Saturday afternoon.
The Fitchburg State women's basketball team (3-5, 0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Rams of Suffolk University for a non-conference tilt, starting at 7:00 P.M.
