Paschal Steps Down As Falcons Head Coach
Fitchburg State women’s basketball coach Walter Paschal recently announced that he will be stepping down as the Falcons mentor after a successful 14-year career with the University.

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 10, 2013) – Fitchburg State women’s basketball coach Walter Paschal recently announced that he will be stepping down as the Falcons mentor after a successful 14-year career with the University.
Over his coaching career at the Fitchburg State, Paschal witnesses remarkable success, posting an overall record of 200-167 (.545 pct). Throughout his time on the sideline, Paschal has been active leading the Falcons to a MASCAC regular season championship, a MASCAC tournament title, and the program's first-ever, NCAA Tournament berth. Over his 14 years at the helm, Paschal has produced 20 All-Conference players, 2 Rookies of the Year and 2 MASCAC Player of the Year.
“I’d like to thank Walter for everything he has done during his tenure at Fitchburg State,” said Sue Lauder, Director of Athletics at Fitchburg State University. “He established and maintained a competitive women’s basketball program and has enjoyed many successes. I wish him continued success in the future.”
Over the 2011-12 season, Paschal witnessed was of his strongest starts, posting an unprecedented 13-0 mark to open the year. The Falcons finished with an overall mark of 16-9 and qualified for the MASCAC playoffs as the sixth-seed, while naming one player to the MASCAC All-Conference team and the DIII Hoops All-Region team.
During the 2006-07 campaign, Fitchburg State witnessed one of its most prolific years under Paschal as the Falcons captured both the MASCAC regular season and playoff crown. Fitchburg State advanced to the NCAA Tournament game vs. Norwich University, setting several program records on their way (most wins, 26; winning streak, 23). For his efforts, Paschal earned his second MASCAC Coach of the Year nomination while also collecting D3Hoops.com Northeast Coach of the Year and WBCA Regional Coach of the Year honors.
Over the next two seasons, Fitchburg State continued to soar, advancing to the MASCAC Tournament during both years. In 2007, Paschal led the Falcons to an ECAC New England Tournament Finals berth with a 20-9 mark and a 9-3 clip in the conference. In 2008, Fitchburg State battled to a second place showing in the MASCAC with a 16-10 record (9-3 MASCAC), before posting a 10-15 mark in 2009.
Upon leaving the University, Paschal will assume the Head Basketball Coach duties at MASCAC rival, Framingham State University. In addition, he will also serve as the Intramural Coordinator.
