2018 Fitchburg State Baseball Schedule Announced

Falcons slated to open 2018 season at Anna Maria on February 24th

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State baseball team's 2018 season has been announced with the Falcons slated play a total of 40 games, including eight games during its annual spring trip to Winter Haven, Florida.

The Green and Gold concluded last season with an overall record of 14-20-1 and a 7-7 mark with Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play, en-route to earning the third seed in the 2017 MASCAC Baseball post-season tournament.

This season, Fitchburg State is scheduled to play three teams who qualified for the 2017 NCAA DIII Regionals, while also playing 11 teams that won at least 20 games last season.

"This year's schedule was designed to challenge us for conference play." Said Fitchburg State head baseball coach Kevin Barnaby.

"Our conference will be better than ever with a lot of teams returning key players all over the field, so we felt the need to add teams that won their conferences last year, and are regionally ranked every year." Barnaby continued.

"Hopefully playing four or five challenging games each week will help prepare us for an extended run in our conference's post-season tournament."

The Falcons open their 2018 slate on February 24th as they travel to Anna Maria College before visiting Salve Regina University one week later (3/3) for a pair of non-conference match ups to open the season before playing eight games in Winter Haven, Fla.

At the Central Florida RussMatt Invitational, Fitchburg State will take on Colby-Sayer (DH) (3/10), McDaniel (3/11), Nichols (3/12), Hamilton (DH) (3/15) and Illinois Tech (DH) (3/16) before returning up north as it embarks on a five game road trip with visits to Becker (3/20), Dean (3/21), Springfield (3/22), Amherst (3/24) and New England College (3/26).

The Green and Gold will have their home opener on March 28th as they host the AMCATS of Anna Maria before traveling to WPI (3/29). Fitchburg State opens conference play (3/30), hosting Mass. Maritime Academy.

Following three non-conference games at Rhode Island College (4/2) and home versus River (4/3) and Gordon (4/4), the Falcons then travel to MASCAC rival MCLA for a double header (4/7).

Fitchburg State's non-conference swing continues, hosting Plymouth State (4/9) and Clark University (4/11) in between a road contest at Keene State (4/10). The Falcons then host Bridgewater State on April 14th for a MASCAC double header before traveling to conference foe Westfield State for a twin billing on April 16th.

Following a non-conference contest at Wentworth (4/19), the Green and Gold continue their conference swing, hosting Salem State for a double header on April 21st before traveling to Worcester State for a pair of games on April 24th.

After hosting the Anchormen of Rhode Island College for a non-conference bout (4/26), the Falcons conclude MASCAC play on April 28th as they visit Framingham State for a double-header. Fitchburg State then wrap up its 2018 regular season on May 1st with a non-conference tilt, hosting the Lynx of Lesley University.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament starts on May 3rd and runs through the championship game on May 6th.
