Falcons team up with the WBCA and join the fight against breast cancer
FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 12, 2014) – The Fitchburg State athletic department will be hosting its sixth annual WBCA “Play 4 Kay” Event on Saturday, February 15th, as the Falcons host the Bears of Bridgewater State in a men’s and women’s basketball MASCAC double-header starting at 1pm.
The WBCA’s Play 4 Kay initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Over the past seven years, the WBCA’s “Play 4 Kay” has raised a phenomenal amount of awareness for breast cancer, as well as a significant amount of donations for women's cancer research.
To date, the Play 4 Kay initiative has contributed over $3.8 million in support of women's cancer research.
Fitchburg State will be teaming up with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a charitable organization “committed to being a part of finding an answer to the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the under deserved, and unifying people for a common cause.” All gates proceeds from the basketball games will be donated to this fund.
In honor of Fitchburg State’s “Play 4 Kay” event, the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s basketball teams will be sporting custom made pink shoe laces during warm ups to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. All Falcon fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing their pink attire and coming down to the games at the Recreation Center to join the fight against breast cancer on Saturday, February 15th.
All Play 4 Kay activities, including the Falcons live basketball action will be available via the web at http://mascac.tv. All webcasts give Falcon fans the opportunity to view live video and audio feeds, including play-by-play announcing and commentary for all home events.
